Lee Bowyer: Blues' fast start shocked Wolves
Nov 30 2009 by Colin Tattum, Birmingham Mail
LEE Bowyer said Blues were wholly deserving of their derby victory at Wolves.
And he revealed that Blues deliberately caught their hosts on the hop with a super start.
Bowyer scored what proved to be the decisive goal just seconds into the third minute.
“Everyone thought Wolves were going to put us under pressure, being the home side, and we’d be under a lot of pressure from the start and would be pegged back,” Bowyer reflected.
“But we surprised them. We silenced the crowd with the early goal and for the first 20 minutes we dominated the game. They didn’t do anything, we closed them down high, they just resorted to long balls and the crowd then turned on them.
“I think the way we started surprised them and I think we deserve the credit we’ve got.”
Bowyer said it wasn’t the prettiest of affairs by the second half but Blues were ready for every eventuality.
“We knew it was going to be a tough game. It wasn’t a very nice game. It was scrappy but when you play these games, like Fulham last week, this is all part of it.
“There aren’t going to be many pretty games for us this season. We are not going to go out there and out-pass teams like the Arsenals and Manchester Uniteds do.
“We have to work hard for our points and you saw it again with the back four and the goalie exceptional. And it is another clean sheet.
“As long as we can get clean sheets, we will nick goals. We are just going to keep working hard and see where that takes us.”
