“So there is a long way to go, we are not shouting from the roof tops.”
McLeish admitted that he could ‘trust’ his players to be more consistent than not, and understand the requirements needed.
“As I said, we’ve done nothing yet but I’m sitting in the dug out now knowing I’ve got players I can trust,” he said.
“I have complete trust in the guys at the back. Listen, some day there is going to be a mistake, an aberration at the back, a bit of bad luck.
“But I have complete trust in the back lads, aided and abetted by the team. We work from the front and have two solid midfielders in there with great experience. They patrolled the middle of the pitch really well at Wolves and every bit ounce of experience shone through.
“When the pressure is on us, we have solid people I can trust. There is steel there. It’s immense. Having that kind of backbone is crucial.”
One aspect of the Molineux win that McLeish queried was Blues’ ruthlessness.
“At half-time I said to them that the only criticism I have got is that we didn’t put the game out of sight, such was our dominance,’’ he said.
“Wolves could have sneaked something at the end, but I felt we were worth our victory.”
