“Too many playing as individuals was one of the things that came back.

“Well, if you played to your top level individually, we would be a better team, we told them.

“There were too many not playing well enough as individuals.

“So individual level is very, very important. Leave the team shape and tactical stuff up to Roy Aitken, Andy Watson and myself we said.

“Individual performances are of paramount importance.

“When I was a player what did I worry about? My own form. And that’s not being selfish, everybody thinks like that.

“But ultimately I knew that if I played well, there was a good chance of the team playing well.

“The only other things I worried about was how my missus was getting on with the other wives.

“But now you’re a manager, you’ve got everything to think about!”

Blues have won three in a five-match unbeaten run. They went eight without Premier League loss in early 2004.
