McLeish praises Yeung’s commitment to Birmingham City

BLUES boss Alex McLeish has praised owner Carson Yeung’s commitment to the club.
Since taking over at St Andrew’s in October, Yeung has attended all of Blues’ fixtures despite still being based in Hong Kong.
During his official unveiling, the Far East tycoon revealed that he was hoping to jet in to England for the majority of his new club’s games and he has been true to his word.
Who could blame him as, apart from the defeat at Arsenal, Blues have remained undefeated since the Chinese regime moved in.
Yeung was sat up in the directors’ box at the DW Stadium on Saturday and McLeish waved a triumphant fist in his direction following the 3-2 victory over Wigan.
While he lets his trusted aides deal with the day-to-day running of the club rather than take a more hands on approach, Yeung still manages to keep his finger on the pulse from his Hong Kong base.
And McLeish has nothing but good things to say about his new boss.
“Carson has been showing his massive commitment,” said McLeish. “I think he flies in every week and back the following day, maybe on the Sunday or the Monday morning.
“Of course when you’ve paid a lot of money for a football club then you’d expect that kind of commitment.
“But he’s a great supporter and, I wouldn’t use the word desperate, but he is ambitious and wants the best for Birmingham. I hope I can provide that for him.”
Asked whether he had the opportunity to chat with Yeung following the match McLeish said: “I was up seeing one of the radio guys and Carson was in the directors’ room which was only another five or six steps to climb so I went and said ‘hello’ and he was delighted with the result.”
