Blues set to decide on new contracts says Alex McLeish

MANAGER Alex McLeish has revealed Blues are set to get round to deciding on new contracts pretty soon.

Sebastian Larsson and Liam Ridgewell’s deals expire in the summer, although Blues hold 12-month and two-year options on them respectively.

“Right now, there are impending talks with some players’ representatives,” said McLeish. “Michael Dunford, the chief executive, and I will get down to that in the coming weeks when we can have a good look at things and see which are our priority in terms of urgency and players’ contracts about to expire.

“We are pretty much covered, we have got options on all the players. So that covers us if we can’t come to agreements. In all likelihood, we would take up all the options.”

As for Larsson, the manager said: “Seb is definitely a player we will talk to about renewing his contract.”

Meanwhile, Blues are to take their time before deciding whether to go ahead and sign Slovakia international Jan Novak.

The MFK Kosice striker was at Wast Hills last week on trial and is up for grabs for three million euros in January.

“We are looking to do more diligence on him,” said McLeish. “We are wanting to see some more DVDs of him playing at a higher level.

“We know he’s done well in the Europa League against teams like Roma. So we’re looking to get those DVDs and also those of his international work.”
