The winger, who has started just one Premier League game this season, has signed for the remainder of the campaign.

McSheffrey was put up for grabs by Alex McLeish in August and attracted plenty of interest but nothing concrete materialised.

His contract expires in the summer, although Blues do hold a two-year option.

But with McLeish keen to sign a winger – he has had his eyes on Aiden McGeady and Charles N’Zogbia – McSheffrey’s days at St Andrew’s appear numbered.

Defender Martin Taylor left St Andrew’s for good when a free transfer was agreed with Watford. Newcastle United and Leicester City also talked to Taylor, who had been at Blues for six years and didn’t figure this season due to injury.

Winger James O’Shea has been lined up by Falkirk for a loan move to gain valuable competitive experience.

O’Shea joined Blues in August from Galway United and has been in and around McLeish’s squads this season, making two starts in the Carling Cup.
