Birmingham City fans give verdict on Pavlyuchenko no-go

Roman Pavlyuchenko

BIRMINGHAM City fans have given their verdict on the Pavlyuchenko saga after Alex McLeish admitted the deal was now doomed.

The Blues boss said he was still hopeful of signing a striker before the transfer window closes at 5pm tonight.

But Spurs rejected Blues' latest, improved offer of £10 million for Pavlyuchenko on Friday night.

Pavlyuchenko, who missed the game on Saturday because of injury, is also wanted by Spartak Moscow.

Fans reacting to the news on the Birmingham Mail message boards were united in both their disappointment that the deal had fallen through and their agreement that a new striker was a must for Eck's team.

gordinaterbcfc wrote: we need a couple of strikers,as I've said all along that chucho is not good enough his finishing is awful, and jerome is a championship player.... Eck sort it out if chucho is worth 9m then i'm worth 7m!!!!

MervPurple T'is easy to say sort it out, but if a player doesn't want to move to Brum, then he won't, If his agent thinks he can tap up a few extra quid, and Eck is adamant he ain't gonna break the wage structure, then he won't.

BlueBomberman wrote: Am a bit upset that we haven't managed to get Pavlyuchenko, he's a real quality player, just look at the goal he scored last week, He would have complemented Chucho perfectly, IMO.

We are still seen as a yo-yo club and hopefully Big Eck will struggle to get a decent striker in the transfer window to compliment some of the good buys last year and this.
Jerome and Benitez, have pace and power, which are good attributes in the Prem, but they ain't 15-20 goals a season strikers.

We could do with a winger as well though, right? I mean, McFadden has been quite lackluster these last two seasons, a new winger would make him work harder. I know we have O'Shea but I'm not too sure on his abilities?

brumm1e wrote: The PAV deal might not be dead. Think about it. Spurs have *5* highly paid strikers. They will probably take our offer as the deadline approaches. Otherwise they are missing millions and still have to pay a srikers wages who has not got a sniff of the first team. Eck and the board are right to say the deal is dead... its called negotiation in business... take it or leave it is just that (or is it?) :-)
