Birmingham City: Fans debate where it went wrong in the Cup, strikers, and hopes for the season

BIRMINGHAM CITY'S disappointing defeat in the FA Cup at Portsmouth had fans flocking to our site to discuss what had gone wrong.

For many, it was the worst performance of the season, and highlighted the need for more signings in the summer.

But most also felt that it shouldn't be allowed to overshadow the great season Blues have had.

Here is a selection of comments...

sid2: I'm sorry, we've had a great season,but that was a disgraceful performance.

Portsmouth were there for the taking. Blues just didn't want it. No fire, nothing, and as for our so called strikers, all I can say is roll on August.

Some of our defending was comical, but if you can't get motivated to get to a semi final you get what you deserve....nothing.

Paddy_Blue: I’m totally disgusted with Blues performance against Pompey. What a perfect opportunity to write history by getting into to FA cup semi final, to be beaten by a miss managed club.

I am sorry for Portsmouth fans, I hope that their club does come to a positive outcome.

Back to our own Blues, foundations in the structure of the club are now set for us to progress to a higher standard.

But after this performance there is a lot of individuals have a lot to answer for.

Earlier on this week I read a comment made by Alex McLeish say that Portsmouth were the team to be wary about and that this could be their game.

This is just negative. Why doesn’t he concentrate on being positive and getting our squad of players to be more creative, freshen up our game. Width & depth most important, defensive & offensive play is non existent.

In my opinion Seb Larsson should not be offered a new contract. He has gone so predicable, he is not a danger anymore like he once was.

Same old tat with his off target free kicks, he’s not creative also not defensive as he never gets back to protect Steve Carr. He offers no width for the team, as he always comes into the centre looking for the ball.

As for Cameron Jerome, he seriously wants to look at himself. He is at the age where he should be banging in 12 to 15 goals a season.

Focus on the simple & the scraps, positional sense, connection with the ball, as the old saying “thru the laces”.

Deep down I want the whole of this club to start writing the history & stats.

“Keep right on”

bluebrummie1: I don't want to slate players but forward play today was woeful McFadden lost the ball every time he got it, costing us the second goal.

Jerome battled but I am afraid you need more than that, Larsson ditto. This is where we need to spend hopefully Big Eck will put this right next season but a we have done well this season most of us would have taken 4th bottom so well done lads.

jkblues: The difference between the two teams was a striker who can score and as we all know we haven't got any apart from Kevin Phillips. At least we are a Premier League side and pompey won't be for long. I wouldn't swap that.
