Birmingham City's Joe Hart should not go to World Cup - Gordon Banks

WORLD Cup legend Gordon Banks has urged Fabio Capello NOT to take Joe Hart to South Africa.

The 1966 winner insists the finals are no place for a rookie goalkeeper, even though Hart is the man in form and was voted the best in the Premier League by his PFA peers.

Instead he wants Capello to recall Blackburn’s 41-cap Paul Robinson from the international wilderness to join Robert Green and David James in the England squad.

“Personally I would take Robinson in place of Hart because he has got the experience,” said Banks as he launched the England ‘Pride, Passion, Party’ range of World Cup merchandise.

“He would be calm walking out for a game and that is important on the world stage.

“I like Hart very much, he is a terrific prospect. In fact, he is the one who, for me, has been the most consistent.

“But the trouble with Hart is that he hasn’t played for England yet apart from half a game in a friendly against Trinidad and Tobago.
