David Murphy hopes to lay down law in Birmingham City defence

DAVID Murphy is hoping his return to action will make Alex McLeish think again.
The Blues boss has been keen to secure a new left-back, with bids for Fulham’s Paul Konchesky having been rejected.
Last season, Liam Ridgewell filled the position, and to great effect, while Franck Queudrue was passed over.
Murphy was sidelined due to a fractured kneecap, sustained in April 2009.
But now he is back and on song, judging from his displays in Blues’ pre-season friendlies.
“I feel fully fit, I feel fully sharp. I feel as if I’m ready to go,” he told the Birmingham Mail.
“It’s up to the manager what team he picks, who he picks, what happens in the transfer market. I can’t do anything about that.
“All I can do is perform every day in training and when I’m on the pitch. I think I have done that this pre-season.”
Murphy joined Blues for £1.5 million from Hibs in the January 2008 transfer window.
The squad assembled now is better and deeper than back then.
