David Sullivan: Birmingham City fans should be 'proud' of Carson Yeung

David Sullivan has told Blues fans they should be ‘proud’ that Carson Yeung is their owner.

Sullivan dismissed any concern over Yeung’s intentions or finances on the eve of his return to St Andrew’s as joint-chairman of West Ham United.

When Yeung first appeared on the scene in the summer of 2007, Sullivan had his background and business portfolio checked out.

He was satisfied with what he discovered, and disclosed privately that Yeung’s personal wealth was more than £100 million.

Birmingham International Holdings Limited, Blues parent company, recently launched a share issue to raise up to £25 million to ‘for general working capital and financial support’ of the club.

"When we sold Birmingham, we sold to someone we felt had the club’s best interests at heart," Sullivan said, although a £55 million windfall for his and the Gold brothers shareholding certainly smoothed the changeover.

"What Carson Yeung has done so far, he deserves full credit for. He’s done a smashing job.

"The team had an exceptional season, he has invested money on players and he is not putting Birmingham at risk.

"He has been selling shares since the start, not taking out loans, so they are not borrowed up. That doesn’t put the club in a precarious financial position and he’s digging up investors in China and the Far East.
