Birmingham City have firmed up their interest in Charlie Adam by tabling a £2 million bid for the Blackpool captain.

And as Alex McLeish enthused about the impending signing of David Bentley from Spurs, Michel prepared to exit St Andrew’s.

Blackpool rejected Blues offer for their talismanic midfield schemer. And manager Ian Holloway has said that he would be surprised if any of his stars wanted to leave, to any club other than a top four outfit.

But Blues are unlikely to give up trying as McLeish and the board continue on their hectic round of transfer window activity.

Subject to a successful medical, Bentley will join on loan for the rest of the season.

Michel, who has yet to see any Premier League action this campaign, has been lined up by AEK Athens for a loan.

The Greek side have opened talks with Blues and their Spanish coach Manolo Jimenez would be prepared to make the transfer of his compatriot permanent in the summer.

Michel, who joined Blues in a £3 million deal from Sporting Gijon a year ago after a long pursuit by McLeish, failed to make the 18 for the last three Premier League matches.

And significantly he was an unused substitute at the FA Cup victory over Millwall on Saturday as McLeish put Jordon Mutch straight into the side after his return from loan to Watford.

Should Michel leave, it could not only have a positive knock-on effect for Mutch but also provide McLeish with more scope to try and prise Adam from Blackpool.
