Birmingham City get tough with Sebastian Larsson

SEBASTIAN Larsson has been warned that Blues will only move him out this transfer window if it’s right for them.

Blackburn Rovers have had a £500,000 bid rejected for the winger, who turned down Blues last contract offer.

Knowing that he could leave for nothing on a Bosman in the summer, Blues have entertained interest.

They accepted a £1 million offer from Newcastle United, but Larsson couldn’t agree terms.

Blackburn will have to go higher if they want to speak to Larsson.

In the meantime Larsson remains part of Alex McLeish’s plans, albeit he didn’t figure last Sunday against Villa.

McLeish said: “Seb’s training with us again. He had a bit of thigh/hip injury and he’s now available.

“There’s nothing happening at the moment with him.

“Everything has got to be right for the club as well.

“Let’s not forget, first and foremost, we have to do what’s right for the club and Seb’s still here.

“He’s still here and fighting for a place.

“There has been a bit of interest, no doubt about it, but he’s still a Birmingham player.”

David Bentley replaced Larsson for the 1-1 derby draw against joining on loan from Spurs.

McLeish also said that it should not be taken as read that Kevin Phillips would be heading through the exit door.
