LIAM Ridgewell has insisted Carling Cup success could drive Blues on as a club – and maybe back to Wembley.

Blues have a vital derby at home to Albion on Saturday and Ridgewell acknowledged it simply must not be a case of ‘after the Lord Mayor’s Show’.

He said: “Winning the Carling Cup is incredible, it’s an unbelievable feeling and it’s hard to put into words. It can only drive us on.

‘‘It will attract players, take the club forward and I’m sure the chairman will look at it and invest with the gaffer.

“It’s just great for the club and for the city – it’s fantastic. We’re talking about redeveloping the stadium as well, but the main thing is to win again on Saturday.

“The Premier League is very important to us and we know our position isn’t good, obviously, and we have to start climbing up the table.”

Blues are away at Everton a week tonight and then it’s the FA Cup quarter-final at St Andrew’s against Bolton Wanderers.

“Can we win the FA Cup as well? Don’t talk to our kit man Denis Butler about that,” joked Ridgewell, “he’s not ready to sort the kit for Wembley again.

“The most important thing at the moment is going back into the Premier League on Saturday and making sure we get a result.

“It’s such a great day, winning the cup, it’s something little boys dream about, but the main thing now is the league.

“We’ve got to look to the next game, against Albion.”

There is bound to be a celebratory atmosphere at St Andrew’s for Blues’ homecoming and that could spur the team – along with their own inner drive.

Ridgewell was part of a defensive unit that hardly trained in the run-up to the Carling Cup final.
