SEBASTIAN Larsson has insisted the time to celebrate Blues’ Carling Cup triumph is over – Premier League survival counts.
Larsson said that snaring the club’s first major trophy since 1963 was a special achievement.
And quite rightly the players received accolades at the civic reception and trophy parade at St Andrew’s on Sunday.
But Blues face Everton away tomorrow in the relegation zone and have to secure their status, the Sweden star said.
“It means everything to win a trophy. That’s what you dream of as a youngster.
“I have been there five years, through some ups and downs, and to be able to finally win a major trophy, it was a great achievement and a great occasion.
“If you look through the last ten seasons in the Carling Cup, it’s tended to go to the top four, five or six clubs, apart from one time. So that just shows you how big a thing it was for us to win it.
“Of course, it gave us a lot of pride to create a bit of history. To win the trophy, at Wembley, in front of all those fans, it doesn’t get much better than that.
“But I know I might sound boring, but we need to make sure we finish the season well and then we can really enjoy it in the summer.
“I have watched bits of the game, but not too much. I have it on DVD and I will see it at the end of the season once we have made sure we are a Premier League side again.
“It would take some of the gloss off if we didn’t survive. We are delighted and proud of the title but, you know, we want to push on. We don’t want to go backwards again. We want to stay in the Premier League and keep pushing forwards.”
