BARRY Ferguson is to have an injection in a bid to get back on the pitch as soon as possible.
Alex McLeish saluted Ferguson’s bravery, and admitted that if it were not for Blues’ precarious league position, there would be no risks taken.
Ferguson played for an hour in the Carling Cup final with a broken rib.
“He has volunteered to take the injection,” said McLeish.
“I think it’s later in the week to allow things to settle down.
“It’s whether he’ll be ready for the FA Cup tie at the weekend.
“It kind of freezes that side of his rib cage and gives it protection.
“I don’t think there’s much you can do in terms of strapping up ribs and things.
“It’s Barry’s decision. He’s done it before at Rangers. A risk? He’s a brave boy, though.
“But, yes, if it was this time last year we would definitely not play him.
“He wants to play. He says he can’t just sit about, he wants to play.”
Ferguson’s determination to resume action is typical of the group of players McLeish has.
