ALEX McLeish has insisted that young guns Jordon Mutch and Nathan Redmond are still learning their trade – and can get better.

Mutch, 19, and Redmond, 17, were impressive in Blues’ FA Cup defeat by Bolton Wanderers.

After Redmond came on as substitute in the 29th minute, the Academy products constituted half of one of the youngest midfields – possibly the youngest – ever fielded by the club.

Not that they played as if they were wet behind the ears, Neither Mutch, who patrolled the centre, nor winger Redmond looked out of place.

“We had two teenagers on the pitch and it was pleasing to get the young guys on,” said McLeish.

“Jordon had another solid game, following on from Everton. He had a couple of great moments, his energy was good.

“He is maturing fast. He believes in himself and there are things we can keep working on with him.

“His tracking back of players was great, his matching of the runners was also great and he passed the ball really lovely.

“He’s looking like he’s got a bright future.

“Nathan we have got to develop also. We’ve got to develop these kids, we’ve got to develop these guys for the sake of this club. Our Academy is important.
