SEBASTIAN Larsson has revealed he does not want to experience that horrible sinking feeling again.
Larsson was part of the last Blues team to be relegated, in 2008.
Although his performances earned him player-of-the-season awards that campaign, it meant little to the Sweden star in the grand scheme of things.
Blues return to Premier League action a week today at home to Bolton Wanderers, second from bottom in the table.
“Our experience of last time should help,” said the winger. “And it’s something I wouldn’t like to be involved in again.
“It’s not a nice feeling. We’re all desperate to stay clear of that. But we have got more than enough in the changing room to deal with it.
“But, at the same time, it’s one thing saying it and it’s one thing doing it. So we need to prove that on the pitch and put in some good performances. If we do, we will be all right.”
Larsson said all the talk shouldn’t be of doom and gloom.
“It’s so close. It’s not only the normal bottom four or five you’d get in a usual season, it’s eight, nine, probably ten teams who are not safe and involved in it this year,’’ he added.
“A couple of bad results will probably put you in the relegation zone, a couple of good results in mid-table. That’s how close it is.”
Larsson said Blues needed to rediscover their obduracy first and foremost if they were to climb away from the danger zone.
“I think we have got back to what we did really well last season, being hard to break down, picking up points, and that’s what we need to keep doing,’’ he said.
