Birmingham City: Alex McLeish on Liam Ridgewell's Birmingham City blunder

Liam Ridgewell

LIAM Ridgewell showed the right stuff to bounce back from his horrendous Ewood Park error.

Alex McLeish said he was pleased that Ridgewell didn’t crumble after gifting Junior Hoilett Blackburn Rovers’ equaliser.

“It was a bad mistake. He was lower than a snake’s belly coming into that dressing room.

“What do you do, savage him for the entire half-time team talk? We got it out of the road and I said to Liam ‘the next test for you is one of character: if you bury your head in the sand, we’re going to lose this game because we need you to be strong and wipe it away’.

“Some people might have crumbled, but he didn’t. He stood strong and showed a lot of mental toughness.”

The goal came seven minutes into added time following a lengthy stoppage for treatment to Roger Johnson.

“Maybe it was a distraction as Roger ran back on at the time the ball was passed to Liam.
