Birmingham City: Tanzania confirmed as potential destination for pre-season tour

Blues have confirmed Tanzania as a potential pre-season destination.

But the club have stressed that nothing is yet definite.

It has been reported that Blues had agreed to play the East African country's top teams Simba and Yanga in Dar es Salaam in July.

It stated that Blues would be paid around £1 million for their visit.

But Blues have other irons in the fire as well.

And the Europa League dates have to be taken into account before anything is settled.

Last season Blues made the ground-breaking trip to Hong Kong and China, owner Carson Yeung's home territory.

It was decided months ago not to go back this pre-season and it appeared that Alex McLeish would be taking his squad to Westendorf, Austria, where they have been the previous two years.

But a variety of alternative proposals have been put to the club and the surprise Tanzania jaunt has come under serious consideration.

A Birmingham City spokesman said: "It is one of our options. There are number of possibilities. But nothing has yet been confirmed."

Complicating Blues planning for 2011-12 has been their qualification for Europe by winning the Carling Cup.

Blues are set to enter the Europe League at the third qualifying round stage and play their first leg on July 28 with the return on August 4.

Usually at the end of July they are away on tour.
