Birmingham City Ladies are intent on maintaining their unbeaten start to the FA Women’s Super League tonight.

And coach David Parker admits that another victory, over Liverpool Ladies at Stratford Town FC (7.45pm), will provide a better-than-expected start to the new competition as they head into a two-month break – and more pressure.

“We have got a great group of players, excellent staff behind the scenes and everyone is working extremely hard,” he said.

“We knew the quality among the players was there, but they had to gel together and to start the way we did exceeded expectations, and we are aware that those expectations have become higher now after we went and won at Arsenal.

“We have to be realistic and remember we finished third from bottom in the old Premier League and that we don’t have the budget others have to spend on their playing staff, and they will be wanting to finishing ahead of us.

“But we will be looking to win against Liverpool and take 19 out of the 21 points available before the break for the World Cup.”

Blues drew the last match, at Chelsea, which brought to an end their 100 per cent record.

Karen Carney and Rachel Williams have been ‘banging in the goals’ and received plenty of attention, but Parker points out it has been a genuine team effort for Blues to this juncture, the halfway mark.
