Birmingham City have breathed a sigh of relief over the extent of Curtis Davies’ injury.
The defender misses tomorrow’s Europa League group game at NK Maribor, as does captain Stephen Carr.
But Davies, who damaged his knee and calf in a challenge on Barnsley’s Jay McEveley on Saturday, has not become a long-term absentee.
That was the initial fear when he had to be taken from the pitch on a stretcher after his ninth-minute foul tackle in the 1-1 draw.
“The only new casualties are Curtis and Stephen,” said manager Chris Hughton.
“Curtis is not anywhere as bad as I initially thought, which is good news.
“He had an X-ray which showed up okay, no problems. It’s bruising, he took a hefty whack and it’s just allowing that to settle down.
“Whether he will be fit for Sunday I think is touch-and-go but we will see.
“Stephen took a whack on his knee, it’s not a major problem but that also needs a few days to settle down.”
