CHRIS Hughton expressed his delight that Blues had finally broken their away-day duck – but admitted they could still do much better.
Three goals in the final 15 minutes brought Blues a stunning victory over Nottingham Forest, their first on the road in the Championship, and first since February, going back to the Premier League.
Chris Burke again produced a wonder strike to start the ball rolling, and Chris Wood – who is poised to renew his loan from Albion – cashed in with a pair.
Blues got things together after the introduction of substitutes Marlon King and Wood in a 4-4-2.
“We’ve won away from home and it’s the first time we’ve done that all season in the league, so I’m delighted,” said Hughton.
“We’ve played away games against the top three in the division. We’ve had a tough time We’ve played five away games and three at home, so we do have some home performances to look forward to.”
“Irrespective of the change of strikers, it needs something to spark it off,” Hughton continued.
“If I look at the first period where they were better than us, I didn’t think they created a lot of chances.
“They’ve managed to score from a corner, out of nothing, and that sparks them off and gives them the lift that they needed.
“We were better second half, but you need a goal.
“We could have sat back and settled for the draw at 1-1, but I think the players sensed themselves that we could go on and win it.
“Chris’s goals have all been important, goals that have brought us back into the game. Yesterday’s was the best.
“It was a super strike, and as we know with those type of strikes, it can go wide, the goalkeeper makes a good save, or it goes into the net.
“It was a real good strike and that gave us the emphasis to go on and win the game.”
“The situation dictated it,” said Hughton, about the substitutions.
