CHRIS Hughton has played down concern over the possible sale of players in the January transfer window.
Blues’ troubled parent company, Birmingham International Holdings Limited (BIHL), issued a profits warning this week and announced the annual accounts would be delayed until February.
With no sign of new capital investment and the lack of loan activity by Hughton on the playing front, fears about more departures from his squad have been raised on the assumption that BIHL is desperate for money.
Hughton said he was being kept up to speed by acting chairman Peter Pannu about the club’s finances.
So are there reasons for Blues fans to be worried?
“I certainly don’t think there’s any more reason than [compared to] numerous clubs who have been in the same position as ourselves,” he replied.
“We are a club that was relegated and had to cut our cloth, as we have seen before. There’s a Championship full of teams who have had to do that.
“And what you are seeing at the moment is a Norwich going back into the Premier League, a Southampton that are very much on the way up. Leeds over the last few years have very much galvanised.
“So I think these things happen, it’s how you adjust to them.
“I would like to think that what the players are doing on the pitch is speaking better for the club than any other issues. It’s important we try to continue that.”
