Birmingham City: Chris Hughton insists team must improve

CHRIS Hughton felt Blues created enough chances to beat Hull last night but insisted the overall performance was not good enough.

The disappointed boss felt the difference between the two sides was that Hull were more clinical after watching his side spurn a number of decent chances.

“The fact we conceded two goals is not good enough, it means automatically that you have to score three goals to win a game,” he said.

“The performance was patchy. There was certainly good spirit and drive in the team but we have conceded two poor goals.

“If I look over 90 minutes we certainly had enough good chances not to lose the game.

“After going in 1-0 up at half-time what you can’t afford to do is concede so early in the second half because it will give them a lift.

“I thought we got back into the game very much after that but I think we are victims of not being clinical enough in the chances we got, and not defending well enough over the 90 minutes.

“I’m disappointed and frustrated because it was ours to lose.

“We, arguably had the clearer chances, we know we would concede possession because of the way they play but it’s the areas that count and they were more clinical overall.”

Despite the defeat Hughton knows it has been a tough period for his side and is now determined to bounce back against Doncaster on Saturday at St Andrew’s.
