MARLON King has urged Blues to maintain a ‘‘winning mentality’’ after his two goals against Doncaster Rovers got them back on track.
Blues had lost three straight games, including Europa League action, before posting a welcome victory over Rovers on Saturday.
And King said that Blues, six points from the Championship play-off zone with two games in hand, must carry on in the same vein because the division is far from a foregone conclusion.
“It was vital we won, just to stay in the pack,” he said.
“Results are going to change right throughout the season, positions are going to change, and the important thing for us – and I know we’ve got games in hand – is just to concentrate on the next one, which is Maribor in the Europa League.
“Whatever happens elsewhere, we have to get the result, just to get that winning mentality back in us, get that good feeling.”
Blues are also relying on a Braga victory at Club Brugge to see them through to the knockout stage on Thursday.
But regardless, the weekend success has given Blues a platform on which to build again.
They went nine games unbeaten between the end of September and the last international break but followed that with just one win in nine.
Blues’ performances were not greatly different during both spells, but poor finishing and the odd mistake proved the difference. King said: “Yes, it’s crazy, because people will say ‘you haven’t won in so many games’ but we went on a run when we didn’t lose in nine.
“People focus on when you don’t win and that’s why it’s important, I think, just for the whole atmosphere of the place, to get back to winning ways like we did on Saturday.
