Marlon King has admitted to frustration that he hasn’t scored more goals this season for Birmingham City.
But he stressed that team success was more important than personal glory.
King’s brace that earned Blues a come from behind victory over Doncaster Rovers on Saturday took his goal total to seven.
He ended up with 13 for Coventry City last season - but his designated brief is different at Blues.
A lot of his good work this season has been done outside the penalty area, setting up others, showing for the ball and linking up play.
“It’s a different role for me,” he revealed. “It has been frustrating personally, I’d like to get a lot more goals.
“But I think, talking from experience, I know they will come.
“As long as I play my role in the team that’s the most important thing. Hopefully the goals on Saturday can get me on that roll.
“But if Chris Wood scores, Chris Burke - whoever - it’s important that we keep that winning mentality.
“If we get promotion at the end of the season, even though I might not have hit my personal tally, it’s back in the big league.”
Wood had two good chances to score against Doncaster, and has profited aplenty from King’s exploits this season.
King joked: “I’ve said that to him, there’s about three or four assists for him and was there any danger of returning the favour?
