Birmingham City: Cheltenham Town target Jack Butland after successful loan period

FORMER Blues midfielder Mark Yates is hoping to twist Chris Hughton’s arm to re-sign Jack Butland on loan.

The Cheltenham Town boss is keen to secure the England under-21 goalkeeper after a successful temporary stint came to an end on Saturday.

Butland kept five clean sheets in 11 games as Yates’s men rose up League Two to challenge top spot.

Butland could leave St Andrew’s again on a youth loan, which is month to month – the same as the current agreement with Albion for striker Chris Wood.

Or in January he is eligible to be farmed out on a standard loan, which runs from transfer window to transfer window. Hughton said he would consider what’s best for Butland and Blues before deciding on the next step for the 18-year-old, who was shortlisted for the League Two player-of-the-month for November.
