CHRIS Hughton has told Blues’ young guns that their careers are better served and developed at St Andrew’s.

Nathan Redmond, Jordon Mutch and Jack Butland are sure to come under consideration by vulture clubs during the January transfer window, seeking to perhaps take advantage of Blues’ financial state.

Manchester City have been mentioned as having an interest in Redmond, but more likely they could be keener on Butland, especially as Joe Hart raves about him.

Hughton insisted Blues have had no inquiries or offers for any of his squad.

And he said the opportunities provided to starlets like Redmond at Blues should not be underestimated.

“Nathan is very much at the best place, very much,” said Hughton.

“The nice bit is that any speculation about someone like Nathan is because he is a young developing player who has done well.

“But he also showed at Crystal Palace the other side. He’s 17 years of age. He was up against a good, quick full-back in Nathaniel Clyne and he found it quite tough.

“That’s where he is at the moment. He’s a lad still developing. The absolute best place for him to develop is at Birmingham City.

“That’s the best option for him to make progress.”

Redmond has taken the breath away twice in the Europa League, against CD Nacional and NK Maribor.

But then each follow-up game, away at Watford, where Lloyd Doyley shackled him, and at Palace, he struggled.

Hughton has picked Redmond sparingly, not least because of more experienced options like Jean Beausejour, Wade Elliott and Chris Burke on the wings.

“I’d like to think we’ve used him wisely,” said Hughton.

“His profile has been lifted. He has made an impact.

“But also there have been games where he’s found it tough – and that’s what I’d expect from a 17-year-old.
