Chris Hughton praises Birmingham City spirit after another late win

Chris Hughton

CHRIS Hughton saluted his last-gasp Birmingham City heroes for coming good yet again when it appeared they were destined for disappointment.
Nikola Zigic poached the winner against Ipswich Town in the first-minute of added time.

His second goal of the night, it continued Blues remarkable trait of scoring late on.

Thirteen of their 33 Championship goals have now come in the last 10 minutes - the best tally in the division.

And in all they have netted 17 times in the final 15 minutes of matches, many in added time.

“The late, late show, yes, yet again,” said Hughton, after the 2-1 victory.

“If you are scoring late in the game it certainly shows something: that you have got enough character and resilience in the team, who also want to protect this very good home record.”

“Is there a recipe for it? No, but we will start kicking off 75 minutes late from now on!” Hughton joked.

“We will hold our hands up, we didn’t play very well,” Hughton admitted.

“On chances, we had more. They defended very well and we did, on their counter attacks.

“Probably over the 90 minutes we edged it. But it wasn’t one of our better performances.”

The win lifted Blues to ninth in the table, just two points from the play-off zone with a game in hand.
