CHRIS Burke says Blues are brushing off the fevered speculation of the January transfer window.
Chris Hughton’s players are concerned with on-field performance and matters, the winger insists.
With Jean Beausejour completing his move to Wigan Athletic last night on a two-and-a-half-year deal for an undisclosed fee, and Albion pursuing Liam Ridgewell – plus Chris Hughton considering options for in-comings – plenty is going on ahead of Tuesday’s deadline.
Burke says it’s not an issue as Blues prepare for Saturday’s FA Cup fourth-round tie at Sheffield United and try to extend their unbeaten sequence to a ninth match.
“The way we look at it, we just go out on there and train, go out on the pitch and play,’’ said Burke.
“We’re a team who are very close together. We have a great spirit in the dressing room.
“We’re honest with each other, we know what we can do and what our strengths are. We know where we’re at as football players and we play to that.
“There’s no big egos here or anything. There are no real superstars, as you would say.
“So that helps and it helps when we all want to work for each other.”
In the Championship play-off zone for the first time this season, Burke admits that Blues want to ‘kick on’ further.
“Talking about the play-offs, and the games in hand, there’s nothing that’s a given in the Championship,’’ he added.
“Now we are there we want to stay there and we want to kick on.
“We knew that it was going to be a slow start just because of the way the European fixtures were.
“Now that adventure is over we can fully concentrate on the league and we’ve done that.
“But we have got a tough game against Sheffield United on Saturday.”
Hughton, his staff and scouts have been out in force in recent weeks taking in games all over the country.
Interestingly, assistant manager Colin Calderwood was at Aggborough on Tuesday to watch Kidderminster Harriers draw 1-1 against York City.
The Harriers’ hottest property is 21-year-old striker Jamille Matt.
