Birmingham City: We can win the league - Steven Caldwell

Steven Caldwell

STEVEN Caldwell reckons Blues are now only looking up and believes the title could be within their grasp.

The rock-solid defender, who has been a key component of Blues’ stern backline, feels his in-form team-mates are oozing with confidence and have set their sights on the top.

Just six points separate third-placed Blues from leaders West Ham ahead of the trip to Barnsley tomorrow and Caldwell cannot wait to get back out on the pitch and attempt to continue their fine recent run.

“I always expected to be in a team who were challenging for play-offs and hopefully the title,” he said.

“That’s why I joined and that’s the measure of the football club.

“It doesn’t matter what kind of transition we’re in it’s a huge football club that should be challenging for the Championship and hopefully in the Premier League.

“I was confident that was going to be the case but it was a transitional period and, fair play to the lads, because they’ve put all that stuff behind them and just focused on the important thing, which is preparing for the season and getting fit and actually being ready to mount a challenge.

“Thankfully we’re in that position. We look stronger every game and we’re finishing games so well, which is testament to the staff.

“We’re cruising along but we’ve got a long way to go.

“We’re looking good and we just need to keep it going. We’re certainly full of confidence eyeing up that position ahead of us.
