Bromsgrove Rovers sign Deano Melitias

BROMSGROVE Rovers believe their supporters could be in for a treat after snapping up American striker Deano Melitias.

The 22-year-old former Chicago Fire frontrunner should have more than a trick or two up his sleeve.

That's because Melitias - whose real christian name is Constantine - is the American freestyle soccer champion, which is our equivalent of soccer skills.

The American's expertise has already been recognised, because he's sponsored by both Nike and Red Bull.

Rovers' director of football Steve Daniels said: "When his contract expired with Chicago Fire, Nike brought him over here to do some soccer shows.

"He trained with Southampton, but they never chased up his international clearance. He's based in Birmingham at the moment and wanted to play some games. Daryl Burgess brought him to our attention.''

Rovers manager Duane Darby added: "Deano's trained with us twice and I've been really impressed with what I've seen.

"Now that his clearance has come through, he'll be in tomorrow's squad to face Swindon Supermarine."

Rovers could have another new striker as they are close to completing a one-month loan deal with Rushden & Diamonds for Lawrence Lamley.

Darby is without former Blues player Mat Birley, who is on wedding duty, while Kevin Banner, Les Hines, Justin Jackson, Richard Ball, Andy Jones and Paul Lloyd are ruled out injured.

Halesowen Town are sweating on the fitness of marksman Dean Brennan, who has a groin injury ahead of a visit from Banbury United.

Former Norwich City striker Zema Abbey is struggling with an ankle problem but Nick Amos returns after illness.

Midland Division leaders Evesham should have strikers Gary Hay and James Knott back from illness for their trip to Aylesbury United.

Third-placed Sutton Coldfield Town also have injury worries ahead of their trip to Stourport Swifts.

Craig Owen, Sam Wilson, Craig Thomas, Matt Dodd, Justin Rowe and Phil Male are all struggling, while striker Mykel Beckley has been sent to see Blues physio Neil McDiarmid in a bid to sought out his knee problem.
