Green wide awake to net vets' cup

WAKE Green won the Birmingham AFA Veterans Cup, eclipsing Ajax United 4-1.

Mark Cartwright netted either side of half-time before Jeff Couchman followed up his own penalty and a fourthcame from Andy Morris. Blues and Watford striker Paul Devlin pulled back a late consolation.

Premier Division leaders Village secured a 3-2 win over Silhill, with Mike Robbs rifling Village ahead and then setting up goals for Paul Bennett and Mike Stimpson. Silhill pulled goals back through Dane Morgan and Paul Skerrett.

Second-placed Sutton United kept the pressure on Village with a second half demolition job on struggling Cresconians.

Sutton held a slender 1-0 lead at the break but then overwhelmed Cresconians with five second half goals, Paul Taylor netting four and Andy Larvin and Gavin Larmouth grabbing the others.
