Penn grabs four in rout for Harriers

RAZOR sharp Russell Penn plundered four goals as Kidderminster Harriers continued their remarkable recent run of good form by hammering Halifax Town 6-1 in the Blue Square Premier last night.

England C international Penn got the ball rolling after 15 minutes when he fired home from 25 yards to leave Halifax goalkeeper Craig Mawson rooted to the spot.

Penn quickly added a second, converting an Iyesden Christie cross.

And it was Christie who hit the third on 35 minutes, taking his tally to 16 this season.

Penn completed his hat-trick in the 38th minute before the shocked Shaymen pulled a goal back from the penalty spot through Jon Shaw after Andy Ferrell handled.

Ferrell fired Harriers further in front with another penalty after Christie was brought down before Penn picked out his fourth goal on 77 minutes.

Bromsgrove Rovers did little to ease their relegation worries when they were held to a goalles draw by promotion chasers Bashley in the BGB Southern Premier.

Former Blues players Matt Birley and Dean Curtis both went close for Rovers in the second half.

But Rovers received a real let-off with five minutes remaining when Bashley striker Ryan Moss sliced wide with the goal at his mercy.

Leamington kept the Midland Division title race alive with a 3-0 win at Rothwell Town where goals from Ryan Parisi, Ben Mackey and James Husband helped close the gap on leaders Evesham United to six points.

Stourbridge stormed upto third spot after a superb 2-1 win at promotion rivals Chesham United.

Nathan Bennett gave the Glassboys a flying start with a third-minute goal but Chesham cancelled out the advantage through the league's leading marksman Danny Burnell.

Leon Broadhurst blotted his copybook by blazing a 54th-minute penalty over the crossbar.

But he made amends by banging home the winner on 71 minutes after Andy Wright's shot was blocked on the line.

Chasetown crashed 2-1 against Leighton and now find themselves out of the play-off places.

Goals from Ben Gallant and Leon Cashman caused the damage before Danny Smith pulled a goal back for the Scholars from the penalty spot.
