Birmingham AFA - Somers spring a surprise at Sutton

AFC SOMERS pulled off a surprise when they travelled to title-chasing Sutton United and secured a shock 1-0 win.

The result has put a huge dent in Sutton's title hopes and leaves leaders Village requiring a draw from their final fixture to lift the Premier crown.

Somers' success was all the more remarkable as Sutton haven't been beaten in the league since November.

Although Sutton spent most of the game camped in Somers' half, they couldn't penetrate a dogged defence which had stand-in goalkeeper Darren Fox in fabulous form.

Sutton only had themselves to blame, especially after they twice failed to convert from the penalty spot - the second of which was awarded in the last minute.

The inevitable happened as Tom Shaw beat Sutton's offside trap to score the only goal.

Woodbourne Sports will finish bottom of the Premier after being held to a 2-2 draw by Handsworth GSOB.

Two goals by in-form midfielder Will Matthews appeared to have given Handsworth the points, but a Martin Sissons own goal ensured a share of the points.

Boldmere Falcons finished 3-2 winners over Billesley United in a fabulous end-of-season contest.

Tom Hemmings put Billesley ahead, but two goals from Paul Batchford fired Falcons ahead.

Dan Pollett levelled matters, but Falcons finished with the points when Paul Tivernan thumped home a splendid half-volley.

Lakin look set to finish third following a 2-1 triumph over Shirley Athletic.

Josh Tweede put Lakin ahead, Damien Kirsch levelled before Imran Shah smacked home the winner.

Erin Go Bragh beat Sutton United 2-0 to make certain of the Division One title thanks to a brace of goals from Marcus Brown.

Old Nortonians bagged a 4-1 win over Bearwood Athletic to become Division Four winners where goals from Hancock, Peckham, Hickey and Bishop sealed the title.

Cable and Wireless have gone through the season unbeaten in Division Six and their 4-0 triumph over Cresconians clinched the title.

Shirley Athletic's third string lifted the Bill Hill Cup following a 2-0 win over Resolution's second side. Kieran Wynne and Rob Evans were on target.
