Scholars swoop for duo

CHASETOWN boss Charlie Blakemore has signed AFC Telford players Richard Teasdale and Gary Birch.

Blakemore has also given striker Danny Smith a new two-year deal in an effort to repel interest from a number of Conference-level clubs, including Stafford Rangers.

Smith struck the winning goal in Chasetown's historic FA Cup second-round replay triumph over Port Vale.

The arrival of Birch will prove a major boost for the Scholars. The former Walsall maksman had been offered a new deal to remain at Telford.

The 26-year-old has also featured for Barnsley, Exeter City and Lincoln City during his professional career, while central defender Teasdale was previously on Hednesford Town's books.

Blakemore has also parted company with his assistant manager, Paul Jones, the former Wolves player, who steps down because of increased work commitments.

Mark Swann replaces Jones while Andy Turner and Kevin Sweeney remain on the coaching staff.

AFC Telford have released former Solihull Borough striker Justin Marsden.

He was out of the side because of injury but spent the latter part of the season on loan at BGB Southern Midland side Leamington, who pressed for Premier Division status all season.
