Carl Burley dismay at Causeway United FA Cup exit

CAUSEWAY United manager Carl Burley couldn’t hide his dismay this week following their FA Cup exit to Shirebrook.

Even a midweek win in Herefordshire over Westfields failed to soften the blow.

Burley claimed: “Everyone was down after the game. We’ve had a number of good cup runs recently and I think there were one or two people who took it for granted.

“The fact we were able to bounce back so quickly following a long trip to Hereford speaks volumes for the squad – but nothing really makes up for losing in the FA Cup.

“It’s a massive blow to everyone involved with the club, especially as it was a game we should have won.

“We lost Aaron Drakeley to injury early in the game and then Matt Hollis had to come off at half-time.

“Matt has been outstanding for us this season, but as soon as he came off, it was as though we just caved-in.

“It was one of those games, which 99 out of 100 times, we would have won.”

Causeway striker Scott Gennard is to seek specialist advice over a persistent knee problem which flared up again at the start of the season.
