Tamworth aim to extend winning start
TAMWORTH bid to extend their unbeaten run to five matches tonight but with a warning that they cannot afford to relax.
The Lambs’ run has pushed them into third place in the Blue Square North table and tonight they head to Alfreton Town.
But manager Gary Mills and No 2 Darron Gee say their rebuilt squad is learning all the time.
“We are nowhere near the finished article so it’s nice to get off to a decent start,” said Gee. “We just want to continue the run we’re on.
“It’s nice to be in the top three, especially for the fans who have had some down times in the last few years. But it means nothing at this stage of the season. When it gets to April then it matters a lot more.”
Mills and Gee will head to Alfreton, the club they managed for a couple of years before returning to the Lambs, with a full squad. Lee Hildreth is back in the fold after impressing in the reserves.
*GARY Whild says Redditch United’s first victory of the season was reward for their hard work in the previous five matches.
But he warned they now need to use last Saturday’s win over Farsley Celtic as their launchpad to climb the table.
“We’ve got a relatively young squad and hopefully the first win will allow everybody to kick on again,” said Whild.
“For me, the win was reward for the effort the players have put in in the other games, especially away from home where three draws could have been three wins. It was nice to get a win on your own pitch and now we need to build on it.”
Tonight the Reds face Hucknall at the Valley Stadium, with midfielder Graham Deakin back in the squad for the first time this season.
The former Walsall midfielder has been unavailable through suspension and then an ankle injury but Whild added: “Hopefully he is back on track now. He has become an important player for us.”
n Worcester City are likely to be without Matt Dodd when they travel to Basingstoke Town in the Blue Square South. The former Sutton Coldfield Town winger suffered a whack on the ankle in the weekend win over Bromley.
