Mark Yates gets big boost from duo

Mark Yates

MARK YATES has secured two of the key men in Kidderminster Harriers’ improving campaign with new deals for Keith Lowe and Lee Baker.

Former Wolves defender Lowe had initially been on a short-term contract but has now signed until the end of the season, while full-back Baker has extended his original 28-day loan from Albion until January.

Both players have been positive figures in Harriers’ three-match unbeaten run which faces a stern test tonight when they entertain Torquay United in front of the Setanta Sports TV cameras.

Yates said: “It’s great news to know we’ve got Keith and Lee on board.

“Keith has made a massive difference to the back four. Not only is he a young, experienced defender who has played at a higher level but he has a lot of quality on the ball.

“We had 28 days to look at Lee and for him to look at us and it’s just reaffirmed what we already knew. He is a good defender, who is only going to get better.”

With only Martin Riley (groin) an absentee from the squad tonight, manager Yates will have a near full squad available to face Torquay in the Blue Square Premier contest.

The Gulls missed out in the promotion play-offs last season, though they have yet to fully shake off that disappointment this term after recording one win from their first six games.

Harriers, too, started slowly with one point from the first three games but seven from the last three has instilled a new buzz around Aggborough.

Yates added: “We’ve looked like a good team in the last few games but we have to keep the momentum going.

“Torquay will be a massive test but the boys have got a lot of confidence and a lot of togetherness. They will be ready for the challenge.”
