Sphinx inflict curse on Studley
LEE Adams admitted to being shellshocked after Coventry Sphinx stuck seven goals past his Studley side last week.
The thrashing came straight after Studley had been awarded the Aspire Midland Alliance team of the month award for August!
Adams remained in no doubt his side had been cursed by the award but conceded: “Sphinx were absolutely fantastic on the night.
“We played our part in a very good first half and I thought we were a bit unlucky to be 1-0 down at the break. But in the second half, everything that Sphinx hit at goal went in.
2At least four of the goals were some of the best I’ve ever seen, all hit from distance.
“Their finishing was clinical on the night and I told Sphinx manager Paul Charnley afterwards that I was shellshocked”. Despite the severity of the defeat, Adams has no plans to make massive changes to his side.
Instead, Adams was quick to defend his players and claimed: “It’s the same people who kept clean sheets against Tipton and Stratford Town.
“We’ve analysed the game since time and again and it gets to the point where you can analyse it too much.
“It’s better to draw a line under the game, because nobody from either side could have predicted a 7-1 scoreline”.
Instead Adams will turn his attention to today’s FA Cup clash at fellow Alliance side Coalville and claimed: “It’s a great chance for both sides to progress”.
The only problem facing Studley is the fact that Coalville went to Sphinx on Saturday – and beat them 3-1!
