There's no stopping the Brakes

THE Brakes are off and running as Leamington made it five straight wins to set the early pace in this season’s BGB Midland Division.

They took their tally of league goals to 16 in the process after putting seven past Marlow Town this week.

Yet assistant manager Morton Titterton admitted goalscoring was an area that might have given them cause for concern following the departure of last season’s top marksman Ben Mackey to Brackley Town.

Mackey was part of a quartet of Brakes player lured away to the Northamptionshire side along with central defender Aaron Parkinson, midfield man Scott Hadland and fellow frontrunner Justin Marsden.

Titterton confirmed: “We lost the spine of last season’s side, so we were wondering how things would work out”.

Leamington responded by recruiting Stourbridge’s record breaking goalscorer Mark Bellingham and Sutton Coldfield Town marksman Mykel Beckley.

Highly-rated Luke Corbett was captured from rivals Bishops Cleeve, while experienced midfield player Jai Stanley arrived from Atherstone.

Leamington also added former Hendesford Town player Steve Palmer to their ranks, but he suffered an injury in pre-season and has yet to appear.

Titterton added: “It’s all worked out extremely well. Against Marlow were had seven different goalscorers. It was something we’ve deliberately worked upon to try and get more goals from different areas”.

The Brakes have been forced to rule out Mykel Beckley at the moment after the striker suffered an accident at work. Titterton revealed: “He cut his hand which severed a nerve and meant he had to spend several days in hospital”.
