FA Cup heartache for Danny Hodnett
DANNY Hodnett is suffering FA Cup heartache after being ruled out of Evesham United’s biggest ever tie.
The defender helped the Robins beat Rushden & Diamonds last weekend to book their first-ever appearance in the first round at Torquay United a week on Saturday.
But former Worcester City player Hodnett picked up a booking in the win against Diamonds – and his fifth yellow card for the season will mean an automatic one-match ban for the Cup fixture.
Manager Paul West said: “It’s the biggest punishment he could possible have – to miss the chance to make history.
“I’m so disappointed for Danny. He has been fantastic for me. He is going to be a big loss. But it opens the door for someone else.
‘‘We didn’t have Steve Lutz against Rushden but Steve Hands came in and was excellent.”
Lutz has completed a three-match suspension and is available for Saturday’s FA Trophy tie at Stourbridge.
