New boy Jason Taylor boosts Bromsgrove Rovers

ROD Brown hailed new recruit Jason Taylor as Bromsgrove Rovers rediscovered the winning feeling.

Taylor, signed from Rugby Town, marked his debut with two goals in a confidence-building 3-0 win which ended a run of four successive league and cup defeats.

“Jason gave us something different,” said Brown. “I felt we had been lacking a bit of punch upfront but Jason also added a bit of composure. We’ve struggled to keep hold of the ball when we have gone forward but Jason did that and that allowed the other players to get involved. It enabled Cameron Jones and Kevin Banner to get forward in wide positions and they caused plenty of problems.”

Brown left out Jermaine Clarke while Luke Reynolds was away in a revamped strikeforce which featured Taylor and Dean Craven playing in the “hole”. It worked perfectly.

But the most important factor for Brown was simply getting a victory.

“We needed a win but it was a gritty performance,” he said. “That was pleasing more than anything. I felt we have been conceding goals too cheaply.”

Midfielder Keenan Meakin-Richards is out of today’s home clash with Soham through a one-match suspension.
