John Finnigan fantastic for Robins, says Yates

MARK Yates has no doubts Cheltenham Town’s loss will undoubtedly be Kidderminster Harriers’ gain after snapping up John Finnigan.

The former Robins captain will join the new-look Aggborough squad on a two-year contract after agreeing his release from Cheltenham where he still had a year to run on his deal.

Yates – a former Cheltenham team-mate – is convinced the 33-year-old Finnigan’s know-how will be priceless as Harriers prepare for the new Blue Square Premier season. Finnigan, born in Wakefield, has made more than 400 career appearances after starting his career at Lincoln City in 1997 and then joining Cheltenham four years later.

“I’ve played with Finners, he’s a great player and he will be fantastic to have around the place,” said Yates.

“The only reason he is not playing League One football is because he has fallen out with someone at his last club – that is not a problem and we benefit from that.”
