Bromsgrove Rovers: Player power puts new manager in charge

PLAYER power persuaded John Snape to take the manager’s job at Bromsgrove Rovers.

Snape was already player-coach at Rovers under Rod Brown, who then switched to take charge at Stratford Town.

A surprised Snape revealed: “All the players asked me to have a go. They said they’d all stay at Bromsgrove if I got the manager’s job. So I did – then five of them immediately followed Rod to Stratford and left!”

Snape added: “I probably couldn’t have chosen a harder job to start with – but I suppose it was something I always wanted to do.”

Busy Snape has reshaped his squad by bringing in former Walsall prospect Dexter Ravenhill and Alvechurch striker Josh McKenzie.

He’s also added Andy Wells from Shifnal Town and Gary Wrae, who was previously with Castle Vale, plus Marlon Walters, who spent last season at Cradley Town.

Snape confirmed: “I’ve also been looking to bring some of the youngsters through like Ollie O’Connell and Luke Darby, who is a relation of former manager Duane Darby.

“However, I’m still on the lookout for a couple of experienced players as well.

“I’ve got people like Matty Gardiner, Paul Lloyd, Kevin Banner and goalkeeper Carl Lewis to call upon while Darren Groucott and John Morris have joined the managerial side.”
