Boldmere St Michaels find their form in win at Walsall

BOLDMERE St Michaels bounced back from their defeat to Alvechurch by beating a second string Walsall side 2-0 in the Birmingham Senior Cup this week.

Mikes boss Rob Mallaband described the success over Walsall as their best all round performance of the season.

More pleasing for Mallaband was the fact he blooded two youngsters who came through the game with flying colours.

He brought in 18-year-old central defender Richard Dunleavy from the youth side together with Johaine Thompson. Such was Thompson’s contribution, that Walsall made enquiries about him after the game.

Dunleavy had trials with a couple of Football League sides this summer. He’s a product of Burton Albion’s Academy and also played with Hednesford.

On the downside for Mikes was the loss of goalkeeper Adam Jenkins early in the game with a fractured foot.

Jenkins is likely to be out for a minimum of eight weeks and will be replaced by 19-year-old Shaun Butler, who impressed when coming on against Walsall.
