Tamworth 3, Ebbsfleet 4: Manager pulls on his boots
Manager Gary Mills pulled on his boots at the age of 48 but his Tamworth side slipped to a 4-3 home defeat to Ebbsfleet.
The Lambs were already safe and Mills admitted the season had been one to savour.
“It’s been a great season – I have loved every minute of it and I’m so proud of everyone at the club,” he said.
Mills played for 55 minutes and left the pitch with the Lambs 3-2 ahead.
They struck first through Iyseden Christie’s 11th-minute effort, before Magno Vieira and Ricky Shakes fired Ebbsfleet in front.
The Lambs regained the lead following Michael Wylde’s header and a rasping 25-yard effort from Bradley Pritchard, only for the visitors’ sub Scott Ginty to snatch the points with two goals on 77 and 81 minutes.
It was not enough, however, for the Kent side to avoid relegation.
