Sutton Coldfield Town make first signings of summer

DAVID Blenkinsopp, Karl Lewis, Brendan Kelly and Sam Wills have become Sutton Coldfield Town’s first new signings of the summer.

Manager Chris Keogh insisted his squad only needed minor tinkering after missing out on the promotion play-offs on goal difference.

And the Royals boss has added to each department of his side, with goalkeeper Lewis and Kelly bolstering their defensive options and striker Blenkinsopp and central midfielder Wills adding to the goalscoring strengths.

Lewis and Wills have both switched from Bromsgrove Rovers, while ex-Redditch and Willenhall Town centre-back Kelly has moved from Alvechurch.

Blenkinsopp’s CV has included spells at Rugby, Halesowen Town and Nuneaton Town, but he ended last season with Gresley.

Sutton assistant boss Neil Tooth said: “They are all young players, but they have got good experience.

“We were happy with the squad from last year so we only needed to bring in four or five players to freshen up things. We’re delighted with the players we’ve brought in so far.”

A striker had been a priority after Craig Marshall left Sutton to return to former club Hednesford Town, but the Royals’ bid to sign Mark Bellingham after his exit from Leamington has failed.
