Tamworth boss Des Lyttle ready to move for midfielder

DES Lyttle will have to wait until next week to strengthen the outfield options in his Tamworth squad.

The Lambs boss was able to conclude his second piece of transfer window business yesterday when Derby County agreed to allow keeper Ross Atkins to remain on loan for the rest of the season.

But Lyttle’s move for a midfielder will be put on hold until next weekend because his target is currently on loan elsewhere.

“I don’t think I will be able to get anybody else in before Saturday’s match at Hayes & Yeading but hopefully I will have another midfielder after the Newport County game on Tuesday,” said Lyttle.

“It’s virtually agreed but his loan at another club doesn’t end until next week.”

Having seen new recruit Abi Yussuf produce a goalscoring debut in Monday’s draw against Kidderminster, Lyttle says he wants only to add a couple of new faces to bump up the numbers for what will be a busy few months in the Blue Square Bet Premier.

But the Lambs boss will be hoping for good news on the injury front for tomorrow’s trip to Hayes.

Left-back Scott Barrow, who was absent on Monday, is expected to be fit but centre-back Michael Wylde, who missed two games with a hamstring injury, has also been struggling with a heel problem.

Top scorer Kyle Perry serves the final match of his three-game ban.

n KIDDERMINSTER Harriers have allowed defender Ollie Thorne to join Conference rivals Rushden & Diamonds.

Thorne, who joined in August from Newport, has linked up with Diamonds on loan, essentially to get games under his belt.

Thorne lost his place after a red card against York City and has slipped down the pecking order of centre-halves behind Michael Briscoe, Tom Sharpe and Mark Albrighton.

Albrighton, however, will be ruled out of the next two games – starting in tomorrow’s trek to Gateshead – following his second red card of the season against Tamworth.

The sixth-placed Harriers will be sweating on the fitness of full-back Lee Vaughan, and strikers Lee Morris and Jamille Matt to face Gateshead, who are managed by ex-Harrier Ian Bogie.

Vaughan has been laid low by illness while Morris and Matt have been recovering from hamstring injuries.
